Decorating the front porch of our home has always been my favorite spot!! I think it’s because when MG and I first started dating, he didn’t have a darn thing on the front porch! Maybe a couple of chairs. Ladies, is anyone with me?! So, the house has come a long way. I love pulling up in the driveway, and being greeted by our blooming hydrangeas and giant cotton wreath. And, it’s a fun game to see where the UPS man is going to hide my packages among the pumpkins and cornstalks.
I felt like a total mom wearing this BP Plaid Poncho, but I loveeee it. It was so popular that it sold out at Nordstrom. To re-create this look, I would go with this gorgeous Madewell Checkerboard Cape Scarf, J.O.A. Turtleneck Ribbed Top in Cream, Kendra Scott Elle Filigree Mother of Pearl Earrings (which I wear all the time and LOVE), Steve Madden Roxana Knee High Boots, and Paige jeans that I found at the Rack for 50% off.
Growing up, my mom, Nanny, and I would take long drives to look at unique ways people were decorating. We have a favorite house off of Cedar Road that goes full-throttle for every season. They have an old fashioned carriage filled with human-sized Easter eggs in the Spring and candy canes in the winter. It. is. magical. Before I knew about or could afford Southern Home, Veranda, and Architectural Digest, there was only driving around town and running through neighborhoods to get inspiration for home decor.
This year, like the past few years, we started at Anderson’s Garden Center. We bought a package from that included the 2 corn stalks, a large pumpkin, and 4 medium sized mums. Only 2 mums are pictured here because the others died pretty quickly (aka: we forgot to water them and put them in the shade 24/7). The rest of the pumpkins were bought at Hunt Club Farm. See my post about The Surprising Thing that Happened at the Pumpkin Patch
For the most part, we reserve indoor decorating for mini white pumpkins and pumpkin-scented hand soaps (small things-because #budget). MG would laugh at me for saying this, but I try to stay minimalist when I can. I don’t want a bunch of clutter everywhere, especially chaotic, holiday decor.
It’s important to know what is available to you. When I start my decor brain dump, I am driving out to the local farmer’s markets and nurseries to see what they all have to offer. Take a picture of everything. Everywhere you do. Dump it into a folder on your phone called “Fall Decor”. Never erase them. Destroy your phone storage.
