Oh, you guys! Our first look could not be more us, lol.
I was telling my dear friend, Karlie, about our first look this past week and she was cracking up…so, I thought I would share it with ya’ll too!!
We left Anchorage at 2pm on August 1st, picked up Clair, Paul, and Scott, then headed 1.5 hours north to Hatcher Pass. Mike and I drove up to the area the day before to get a feel for it, but still weren’t set on the “perfect” first look spot. The videographer thought the brook would be ideal, so we pulled over, I put on my dress, and we got set up!
Clair had Mike walk down to the running brook so she could snap some pics of him and I could finish putting my hair and dress together. She came back to get me, and I started walking towards him..
At this point, I wasn’t imagining that he was going to cry at how beautiful I was or how overcome with emotion he was or whatever like you see on Instagram, lol. Like I wrote about in our “Why We Are Eloping in Alaska” post, we just aren’t super emotional people. I was hoping for a general “wow” moment though. And, his allergies were acting up, so I was hoping for a fake tear at the very least. Is that wrong?? 🙈
Ok ok, so I put my hand on his arm and he LITERALLY JUMPS OUT OF HIS SKIN. Like almost into the running brook. The pics were terrible because he had this mega shocked look on his face like he had seen a ghost and not his BRIDE. The water from the brook was running so loud that he couldn’t hear me coming. Gosh, I wish we had some of those! 😂
So….take 2.
As I got closer to him I was practically shouting “I’m 5 steps away, almost there! I’m about to touch you…ok r u smiling?” It was a rooomannntic first look, let me tell ya. ✌️
This last one is particularly funny to me. Mike is always tugging me along because I’m generally a fast walker, but slow when it comes to hikes/things I want to soak in and enjoy. You can tell he just wanted to “get the show on the road”, so if you zoom in close you can see he is tugging away at my wrist, lol!
That’s enough story for today! We are SOSOSO excited to see our friends and family coming from out of town for our reception in Smithfield next weekend! If you have a funny first look story, let me know in the comments below!! Would you guys want me to share more tidbits from that day?
xo, Chels
