Ahh, wow this post has been a long time coming! I am so excited to get you closer to having beautiful, healthy, voluminous hair today!
Volume is such a tricky thing, and I finally figured out how to work with my natural hair to create some bounce! I always know when I did maybe a little too much back-handed brushing when Mike says, “Your hair is very high to Jesus today!” 😂 I believe what they say…the higher the hair, the closer to God.
I’m not a trained hairstylist like my guru Karlie Dare, but this is my experience creating volume!
Prioritize Hair Health
If you don’t take good care of yourself, voluminous hair is still achievable, buttt you’re going to have to work that much harder. Whether it’s a nutritional deficiency or heat damage, I’ve been through it all, so I’m here to tell you that you want to start off on a healthy foot. I personally take this green multivitamin and this biotin supplement.
Good Hair Products
Paul Mitchell Super Strength Shampoo & Conditioner: First things first, I use this super strength shampoo and conditioner. After trying every product on the shelves with the word “damaged” or “colored-hair” or “volume”…I finally found my shampoo soulmate in this product.
Not Your Mother’s Dry Shampoo: I use this dry shampoo even when my hair isn’t dirty to give it extra texture. After applying to my roots, I’ll back-brush my hair (lightly). I mean, I use so much of this stuff that I subscribe and save on Amazon.
Natural Boar Bristle Brush: This brush took a lot of getting used to, but it saved my hair. Brushing it (especially wet) can really damage your hair. These bristles are really gentle, but they can create a little static. By the time I’m done styling my hair, I never have issues with static.
Bumble & Bumble Dryspun Texture Spray: Another one of my favorite thickening products is this dryspun spray. Warning: it’s expensive at $30 a bottle, but it’s the best stuff I’ve ever tried. I save it for the days I want to reallyyy look good, so it lasts a long time. And it smells AMAZING.
Moroccan Oil (Treatment): Part of my bedtime routine is to apply this treatment oil to the ends of my hair. You can look it up and read about all the awards it has won or you can just buy it because it smells like heaven. Fun fact: it is paraben-free; sulfate-free; alcohol-free; phosphate-free.
Olaplex Hair Perfector No. 3 : Once a week, I use this overnight mask to heal and prevent split ends. You don’t have to go overboard like I do and wear it all night, but the longer you wear it, the more time your hair has to heal. Once, I took a shower, put the treatment on, heated up a towel to put around my hair, got in the bathtub, and legit felt like I was at the spa. Would 10/10 recommend that.
It’s a 10 Miracle Leave-in Potion: I spray this on my ends after I towel off my hair. Then, I either go to sleep with it damp or blow dry.
Kenra Platinum Blow Dry Mist: This stuff seriously changed my hair when I started using it. Just spray 1-2 sprays (don’t go overboard!!) and it will make your hair sooo shiny and smooth.
Nexxus Maxximum Finishing Mist: This is the best holding hairspray without making your hair “crunchy”.
I use this Hot Tools curling iron and this Conair Wand to style my hair and this Revlon Volumizing Hair Dryer. By far, the wand gives me the most volume! My hair was wanded in this post and curled in my bridal shower post.
Email me if you have any specific questions about the products or techniques to create voluminous hair! I would love to know if you try one. I truly had no idea that I was using so many products JUST for my hair. It’s crazy, but they are all so necessary (imo)!!
