Eat
Let’s just start with food because who doesn’t think eating is one of the best things to do on vacation?! Given its proximity to the Atlantic coastline, Acadia National Park is obviously known for the seafood. Everywhere you turn, there is a lobster shack. There isn’t any cell service in this sweet little town, so make sure you download the google map for the area.
We were in Acadia for 5 days, and it was so hard to leave. The people were so kind, the food was out of this world, and the mountains were so serene.
Our favorite dinner spots were:
- The Happy Clam Shack
- Our top fave. We ate here ate least 3 times because the woman was one of the kindest people we had ever met! Best lobster too!
- C-Rays Lobster Shack
- Thurston’s Lobster Pound
- Best lobster melt. We ate here twice.
- Beal’s Lobster Pier
- We loved the Garlic Lovers, Spicy Buffalo, and Centennial Lobster Rolls
- Side Street Cafe
- Strong drinks in a mason jar.
- Jordan Pond House
- We had the best blueberry crisp with blueberry ice cream on top. People also rave about their popovers
- Mount Desert Island Ice Cream
See
A better term for this might be “actively seeing” because there’s really no such thing as casually sight-seeing if you and love know Mike Gil. 🙂
One could spend a whole summer in Acadia and still have more things to do and see. Here are a few of our favorite hikes:
- Precipice Trail
- Definitely our favorite, prepare to die a little bit
- Champlain Mountain & Beehive Loop Trail
- Cadillac Mountain North Ridge Trail
- Gorham Mountain Trail
- Beech Mountain Trail
- Wonderland Trail
- The Bowl Trail
What To Wear Hiking In Acadia National Park
Our trip was in September, and the temperature change from day to night was drastic. I had to keep a sweatshirt and pants in the car with me! Layers are definitely key.
Do
Besides eating and sightseeing/hiking, there are plenty of things to “do” in Bar Harbor. We rented SUPs and took them out in Eagle Lake for a few hours. We got to see a seaplane and some other cool things that you can only see from the water. I would def. love to do that again.
We set our alarms twice to get up for the sunrise at Cadillac Mountain. They say the sun rises at Cadillac Mountain before anywhere else in the USA. Read here if you want more info on that. Then, we realized that we just aren’t going to wake up at 4:30 am on vacation lol, so we settled for a beautiful sunset at the Bass Harbor Lighthouse.
Just walking around the town of Bar Harbor was so much fun for us! We walked in and out of the little stores, I took pictures with a stranger’s bike, and we met some of the nicest locals.
I can’t wait to go back to Acadia one day! I hope you get the chance to visit this place. You won’t be disappointed!
xx, Chelsea
