I have a love/hate relationship with podcasts. My attention span is 3 seconds on a good day, so it pains me to listen to long intros and tangents. HOWEVER, how cool is it that we can learn something new by never having to crack open a book?
Fun fact: Mike never listens to music when he’s working out lol! He is always blasting an emergency medicine or finance podcast. I think he rubbed off on me because now I listen to podcasts about 50% of the time when I’m working out, and always when I’m driving. The podcasts I listen to range from SEO to medicine, real estate, fashion forecasting, and stock market.
Here are the best episodes I listened to this week. Do yourself a favor and listen to them!
1. The BossBabe Podcast: 5 Biohacking Tips for Female Entrepreneurs
To be honest, I gag a little at the term “boss babe”, but that is besides the point. This is by far the most interesting podcast episode I have listened to in a while. Maybe ever. BossBabe host, Natalie Ellis, interviews New York Times Best Selling Author, biohacker guru, and ironman triathlete, Ben Greenfield.
Topics range from “why women shouldn’t fast”, grounding your body for electrical balance, dirty electricity, babies concieved on birth control are more likely to have immune system issues, supplements to take for supporting symmetry in your baby’s face (??), and why we should be taking a Magnesium supplement. Plus, so many other mind blowing topics.
After this episode, I bought these pink incandescent light bulbs for our bedroom. If nothing else, let’s take a moment to appreciate how invested Ben is in the biohacking theory.
You can find Ben’s books on Amazon here if you’re interested.
2. The Sunday Read: ‘Sweatpants Forever’
The fashion industry started to crumble at the economic collapse of 2008 — what happens now that no one has a reason to dress up?
Burberry released in the July report that they burned $37 Million of clothing and cosmetics to “protect the brand”. With giants, J. Crew, Nieman Marcus, Brooks Brothers, Stein Mart, Forever 21, and dozens of others declaring Chapter 11 Bankruptcy, one must think….how far are these companies willing to go to protect their brand? What does 2020 hold for small businesses if the large corporations are folding? Will I have to put real pants on anytime soon? I need advanced notice.
3. Crime Junkie: SERIAL KILLER: Ed Kemper
We all love a serial killer story, right? Ed Kemper murdered 6 college-aged women, his mother, and his grandparents. Warning: this story includes cannibalism, necrophilia, and rape. Oh, did I mention his IQ was 145?
4. The Goop Podcast: What to Cut Loose
“In my forties, I realized I I needed to be quicker to identify the things I shouldn’t be holding on to, and cut them loose” -Cameran Diaz
*stands and claps*
I’ve always wanted to be friends with Cameran Diaz lol. Doesn’t she have the best energy?! In this interview with Gweneth Paltrow, Diaz talks about why she decided to cut her wildly successful acting career loose. Diaz started an organic wine line, Avaline, and she is happier now at 47 than ever before. Medium quality audio (thanks covid), but definitely worth a listen.
5. The Skinny Confidential: Amelia Gray Hamlin On Overcoming An Eating Disorder & RHOBH
You know Amelia as the daughter of Lisa Rinna & Harry Hamlin. Lisa has openly talked about Amelia’s struggle with anorexia & OCD on Real Housewives of Beverly Hills. This season, Lisa was accused of contributing to Amelia’s disorder.
This might not be everyone’s cup of tea, but I went to treatment for anorexia in college, so I want to know everything I can about how people become ill, recover, etc. I could not imagine going through that battle on one of the most popular Bravo TV shows. Amelia’s interview will give you insight into how eating disorders develop and perpetuate, and what taking control of your life actually looks like.
That’s it for now! Should we make this a weekly post? I listen to ~50 podcast episodes a week, so I’m happy to share the good, bad, and ugly!
If you’re wondering where I got this blazer, it is sadly sold out. I shared some similar (and much cheaper options actually) in My Top 13 Favorite Business Books for a Career in Medical Device Sales. Also linked in my “shop my instagram” tab!
Hope you bbs have a wonderful Labor Day Weekend! I am showing some homes and heading to the River! 🙂
xx, Chels
