Don’t Sit on Colon Cancer?
When I was working at Sentara, we were forced to watch this “Don’t Sit on Colon Cancer” video as part of the annual training. Frankly, it scared the tar out of me. My good friend Claudia and I immediately started building standing desks out of stacked plastic filing bins. We brought in yoga balls to replace desk chairs. Our lunch breaks started becoming walking breaks. Back then, I would have done a backflip for this sleek white Flexispot standing desk or at the minimum a laptop riser.
I encourage you to read the PubMed studies that correlate increased sedentary time to increased risk of colorectal, ovarian, and endometrial cancer here and here. You’re smart, so you already know the risk, but it’s a good reminder that the more you take care of your body…the more your body takes care of you.
Pros
There are quite a few standing desks on the market right now. Out of all the choices, I like the Flexispot standing desk the best because there are a ton of size, color options, and the reviews speak for themselves. The one I selected is a 48″x 24″ top. I like this size because it fits well in the room, but it isn’t overwhelming. The specs are crazy. Height range from 28.7″ to 48.4″; an advertised maximum weight capacity of 110 lbs although I weight 150ish and sat on it without absolutely crushing it. The desk also boasts a speed of 1″ per second and low noise while running. That means nothing to me, but I figured I would share.
Among the color options, there is a sleek black desk, maple top desk, and Flexispot even has the viral bike desk (with or without the desk part).
Installation
Easiest thing I’ve ever installed. It was awkward to lift because it was large, so Mike helped me install it. The desk weighs 79.8 pounds, so it wasn’t too heavy. Just awkwardly large. I want that stated clearly that the help was solely due to the awkward size. Overall, installation took less than 10 minutes. The video I took installing it is on Tiktok here.
Cons
Whyyyy didn’t we make white power cords with a white desk? I’d rate the desk 4/5 stars for that, but I’ve been told on more than one occasion that my standards are high. At the very least, I would like to submit that as feedback for the next model.
Please note that the desk comes with super handy clips to help conceal the cords. I opted not to use them because I move my desk around every few days when I am shooting photos in my office. So, the situation could look better.
Flash Sale
There is a $40 coupon running on Amazon right now, so I wouldn’t miss out on that. It is a great bargain! And the white will never go out of style!
Outfit Dets
Blazer is “Princess Polly Textured Weave Blazer” from the amazing & Australian Belle & Bloom. Code: CHELSEA25 for 25% off. Jeans are old Apricot Lane. Brand is Hidden. I can’t find the frayed hem in stock, but Nordstrom carries them in the straight hem (which I also own and love). TTS/wearing 27. Shoes are Tory Burch Janey Pumps. People talk smack about TB, but I will continue to stan these shoes.
