Welcome to week 2 of revealing our design plans for the new house. Last week we talked all things kitchen in this post. This week….our formal living room!
I describe my home decor style as “classic European meets grandmillenial.” With a focus on keeping all of the mainstay pieces in the crisp white, beige, gray, and wood-tones family, it is so much easier to add pops of color as the seasons come and go. Aside from the kitchen and primary bedroom, we spend a lot of time in the living room. The ceilings will be 10′ tall and coffered.
Let’s talk about how we are incorporating some old & new to decorate one of our favorite rooms! 🤗
Chandelier
Opinions welcome! Mike and I agree on the style, but not the color. Lol, shocker. I am 99.9% decided on this gold & crystal tiered chandelier. Mike likes the same style, but in the white bead. Which also has a dupe shown below. We haven’t ordered yet, so we are still considering all the options ⬇️
Furniture
We hunted for daysss to find the perfect white slipcover couch.
My criteria for a couch were:
- One bench seat
- Deep seating
- 90-100″
- Performance fabric
- White 🙂
The closest I found online is the classic Pottery Barn York Roll Sofa. While that was a wonderful option….the price tag held us back.
We searched the 1-million-square-foot furniture mall in Hickory, NC for 4 hours. Hours on hours of talking to salespeople annoyed MG almost to the point where we gave in and bought the PB sofa. Mike suggested we go in this hole-in-the-wall furniture outlet in Asheville. I didn’t even want to go in tbh, but lo and behold, that is where we found this amazing sofa!
I sat on it and loved it, but saw the price was $8,000. So, I quickly moved on. Mike came back to the couch, looked twice at the price tag and said, “It is $800 not $8000!”
We were so used to seeing number in the thousands that I completely misread the price! 🤦♀️ We had that sofa professionally cleaned and in our home in 3 days. Now, Rudy’s Furniture Warehouse is our first stop.
Don’t Forget the Scotch Guard!
The sofa itself is from Carolina Furniture. We didn’t know if it was performance fabric or not, so we sprayed Scotch Guard on it. Supposedly, that is how the professionals treat factory fabric and make it “performance fabric.”
Coffee Table
This Safavieh Maurice Gold Coffee Table will look so beautiful with some decorative ginger jars, candles, and books! I love the look of a glass coffee table! Especially one with bamboo detail.
End Tables
Blanched Oak & Gold End Tables by Bungalow 5. Right now, we have a set of French Provincial end tables, but those will most likely move upstairs to the casual living room.
Rug
This is as close as I get to a deer mounted on the wall. This Ballard antelope rug will bring a little warmth and interest to the room.
Lamps
This Triple Gourd Lamp Set is inexpensive and chic. You can really break the bank on lamps which is….baffling. But nonetheless, I am digging these.
I will do a separate post on the fireplace and built-ins next week! Let me know in the comments which chandelier you vote for: 1, 2, 3, 4, or 5!
